Now look. You’re not only voting for president! You’ll also be voting for local officials, congress seats, propositions, possibly referendums! Sometimes there’s more than one person running for the same seat in the same party. One of them might be pro-choice, one of them might be less so… who knows?!? Well, you can look this stuff up before you get in the booth.

For example, I had no idea I would be voting on proposition 1. Proposition 1 would eliminate requirements of veterans to be receiving disability payments to qualify for additional points on civil service exams for appointment or promotion.

Who proposed what with the who now?

I know!

You think my summary is confusing and poorly worded! Imagine reading about the proposition for the first time in a little booth! Anyways, knowing it was going to be on my ballot led me to read up on what this proposition was all about. Now I know how to vote and can yammer on about it at political gatherings and sound like a smart voter! Huzzah!

Find out who and what will be on your ballot at smartvoter.org
